15 Year Reunion...Err, Make That 20

Hi everyone,

Back when we had our 10 year reunion, a couple of us (Joyce Skeens, Iman Tyron, and myself) agreed to coordinate the next reunion. At the time we thought it would be neat to have a 15 year reunion. However, now that 2011 is here and it's time for us to be deep in the planning stages for the 15 year reunion, we realize that maybe we were a bit overzealous in wanting to have another one so soon. We all have a lot of things going on in our life right now, so we have decided to skip the 15 year (most schools don't do a 15 year anyway) and put our efforts toward the 20 year.

So the next reunion will be sometime in 2016. I will work on getting the word out, but please also share with those you know from our class.

I will continue to collect contact information for when the time comes, so please try to remember to update me when you move or change email addresses. In 2015, I plan on really reaching out and trying to get contact info for everyone I can, so that we will have places to mail the invitations, etc. I will also probably send out a yearly email to this list to remind folks to update me with any new contact info.

50th Anniversary Celebration at IKE

Hi All,

Sorry for the short notice, but I found out that there is going to be a 50th Anniversary Celebration at Eisenhower for all years on October 17th, 2009 from 10am to 8pm. It's a $5 admission, plus an additional $10 if you wish to partake in the lunch. Lunch reservations will be accepted until Monday, October 12, 2009.

Newly Created Reunion Group on Facebook

More info on Mr. Schmidt

Several of you have replied asking if there is anything you can do to help and when the memorial service is. Here is some info passed onto me by another former teacher:

Dear Friends:

It is with a really sad heart that I am sending this email to let you know that our dear friend Willie Schmidt passed away Monday morning at his home. I know some of you have already heard so I am sorry if this is redundant.

Willie had been battling cancer for several years and he suddenly took a turn for the worse only about a couple of weeks ago. They had found that his cancer was very aggressive and they gave him one chemo treatment with several more to follow but he deterioated very rapidly. We will miss him sadly. Nan is doing very well. Her friend Cheryl was with her the last couple of days to help her with Willie. We had traveled to Tennessee for our granddaughter's wedding and got home Tuesday afternoon.

There will be no viewing or funeral. Willie is being cremated and Nan has not made a definite decision on his final resting place. She is planning to have a memorial service in the near future so we will keep you posted on that.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and cards and letters can be sent to:

Also, for those of you who didn't know Mr. Schmidt, he was an 11th grade US History teacher. I'm not sure if he also taught other grades. I was never actually in his class, but I knew who he was.

Sad Passing - Mr. Willie Schmidt

For those of you who had or knew Mr. Schmidt, he passed away on September 17th after a couple of bouts with cancer. A memorial service is yet to be scheduled.

Sad Passing - Mr. Jeff Perkins

I'm not sure how many of you had Mr. Jeff Perkins as a teacher. I had him for 10th grade Honors History. I really liked him. I just found out that he passed away last Friday (Dec 8).

He had been fighting cancer and it went to his brain. They discovered the first cancer when they were getting ready to do some back surgery. He went through chemo and seemed to be doing very well. Then the cancer came back and moved to his brain.

There are no plans for a service per his wishes. The only "services" will be for the immediate family. If you wish to send condolences, they may be sent to:

15-year reunion is in the works!

Thanks again to those who were able to make it to the 10-year reunion. A few more pictures have been posted to the gallery, and I hope more people will still come forward with their pictures.

Now that the 10-year is over, it's time to give some thought toward the next reunion. Marlenna announced that she wasn't planning on doing the 20-year, so it was up for grabs. I heard rumors that Carlina (Salters) Payne was interested in planning the 20-year and Joyce Skeens was interested in planning the 15-year. Also, Iman Tryon contacted me saying that she is interested in planning the 15-year. From the feedback I've received from people who weren't able to make it to the 10-year, it sounds like a 15-year reunion would be very welcome. So we'll probably plan on having a reunion every 5 years.

I would be very interested in helping out with the 15-year, 20-year, and so on. I'm good at keeping in touch with people and already have a lot of information from planning this reunion. I sent Joyce an email earlier today. Potentially our 15-year committee will consist of Joyce, Iman, and myself. If anyone else is interested to be on the committee, please let us know. All of the real planning details can be worked out later, but I wanted to at least let people know that one is in the works.

I had gone through all 4 yearbooks and put together a spreadsheet listing everyone who was in our class during any of those 4 years (regardless of whether or not they actually graduated from IKE). I have 95 physical addresses and 88 email addresses. This mailing list has 123 addresses, so I know there are some people who signed up that I haven't matched to their names on the spreadsheet.

Since I already have so much information and am good at keeping things organized, I propose that I be the one to collect everyone's contact info. If you provided it to the reunion company, but not to me, then I don't have it, so please pass it on to me. If you signed up for the mailing list, but didn't tell me who you are, would you mind sending me an email so I can update my spreadsheet?

Also, please try to remember to keep me updated with new contact info over the years. I plan to send an email through the mailing list about once a year to remind people to let me know if they've moved. If you happen to know any fellow classmates, be sure to send them my way to sign up for the mailing list. The mailing list should be extremely low volume until about a year or so before the next reunion. The tentative date would be Saturday, June 11, 2011.

For this next reunion, we are going to try to do it without a reunion company. There were pros and cons using one this year and I'm sure there will be pros and cons to not using one. Then for our 20-year, we will have the experience of both and can build on lessons learned from each. Ideally, we'll get better at this each time.

Please feel free to share your ideas on the MySpace Group. It would be nice to use the bulletin boards to keep in better touch with each other over the next 5 years. And of course I always welcome emails!

I would like to thank all of you who were able to come; we had a decent turnout. I would especially like to thank my fellow committee members, Marlenna and Jessie.

It was great talking to those of you with whom I was able. There were several of you whom I had meant to talk with before the night was over, but that somehow didn't happen; sorry about that. Did anyone happen to get any contact info for Desi Candari? I never got any during the preparation for the reunion and he's not listed in the Biography Book. I had wanted to talk with him, but didn't get a chance to. If anyone could pass on his info to me or mine to him, I'd appreciate it.

Someone left behind a Biography Book, so if that was you and you would like it back, let me know and I'll be happy to mail it to you.
