The daughter of a friend of mine is a Deputy out here in the Antelope Valley who really cares about animals. Because of her reputation, she was informed of a very sad situation:
A gentleman and his son were wrestling around and the son ended up falling on their 3 1/2 month old puppy Samone, breaking the her leg. They took the Samone to the emergency vet in Lancaster, but it was going to cost too much. The man was very distraught because his son loved this puppy, and it was just an accident, but he just couldn't afford to have the puppy's leg fixed. It seemed his only option was to take her to a shelter who would put her down (he also couldn't afford to pay the emergency vet to even put her down).
Thankfully someone contacted my friend's daughter, who got the man in touch with the St. Martin's Animal Foundation. They took in Samone and got her fixed up. The break turned out to be a double fracture and needed pins. The total vet bill came to $3,080. St. Martin's Animal Foundation went on the news to raise money. However, they were only able to raise $2,100 (one very generous donation of $1,000 plus a bunch of smaller donations). The vet is still waiting to cash the check.
St. Martin's Animal Foundation a rescue that pulls out many sick animals for the animal shelter every week, and they can pay $100-$200 for meds, but this bill is really hurting their rescue efforts. The vet is still holding the check, and St. Martin's Animal Foundation is a bit stressed about the bill.
Please, if you are able to donate funds toward this effort, it would really help the rescuers and vet who stepped in and helped out this poor puppy. You may donate online at http://www.stmartinsrescue.org/ or mail a check to:
I donated $50 myself. Please consider sending in something - doesn't matter the amount. You could send in $5 or $500. Any amount, big or small, would be appreciated.
Attached is a PDF with a picture of Samone and synopsis of this touching story.
